Harold and Cheryl Mayo Covid Recovery and Rehab
January 2021, sadly presented a new set of challenges for the Mayo family. Harold, (husband to Cheryl and father to Josie and Jackie Mayo, students at the University of Arkansas) contracted Covid 19. In route to the hospital via ambulance had a heart attack. Already in care of skilled medical attendants, they were able to revive him. Upon assessment, it was necessary for Harold to be placed on a ventilator and placed in a medically induced coma. He was on the ventilator for 6 days and will need a minimum of 6 weeks to regain his ability to walk and use of his fine motor and cognitive skills
Harold recently was granted total disability In late 2020. At the end of 2019 he was diagnosed with both congestive heart failure and renal failure. Against all odds Harold was able to beat covid. He is not eligible for Medicare until after he has been on disability for 24 months.
As his daughters and sister worked feverishly to resolve the issues with Harold’s rehab, Cheryl is diagnosed with Covid and taken to the hospital via ambulance due to very low oxygen level.
Both Harold and Cheryl’s disability checks can maintain basic stability for the family, however Harold’s next disability check will go to the facility and towards rehab as Medicaid steps in to help with his recover now leaving his family without the means to pay basic necessities let alone the needs of his two daughters college.
Both Josie and Jackie are exemplary students and role models within the community and need your help during this very trying time! Please help this family. No amount is too small!
