A family crisis can come out of nowhere and knock you completely off your feet.
The Harms family knows this first-hand. And as their friends and family, we want to do all we can to help them get back on their feet, and to be able to stand through the storm they find themselves in.
After serving the Lord faithfully for many years in Indonesia, Phil and Shelly Harms, together with their son Simon and daughter Sophie, had to suddenly return to the US. Their son Simon is in crisis, and needs emotional, spiritual and mental help. For the sake of the whole family they left behind their ministry, home, and life on the field, to come and get help in the best place possible.
The medical costs are already beginning to add up – hospital care, therapists and other professionals, medicines, etc. Some of this will be ongoing for the foreseeable future. And their health insurance was through Shelly’s teaching position overseas and does not cover anything here in the US. They will need to get insurance for the family here to help to pay for all these expenses – a huge expense in itself!
And because this was so sudden, everything they own is still back in Indonesia. Phil will need to make a trip back to close out their home, sell what he can, and arrange to ship their household belongings back to the US. This alone will cost thousand dollars.
And finding and renting a home in the Lakeland FL area will cost so much more than they have been paying overseas… and they need a car… and a myriad of other things!
We are thankful for those of you who faithfully support their ministry each month – they will continue to need you more than ever. But the expenses already incurred and those coming will be far more than their usual ministry support income can handle. Frankly, they are overwhelmed!
So many people have asked what they can do to help Phil and Shelly and the kids, and so as their ministry teammates and friends, we thought a campaign like this would be an easy way for friends and family to contribute to meet these overwhelming needs.
All funds raised through this campaign have been set up for Phil and Shelly to have exclusive use and control of the funds for the family.
