Hey all, I'm Mike Shrider and this GoFundMe is to try to help raise funds for an emergency transmission repair on my 1996 Harley-Davidson Fatboy.
Before anyone starts thinking, "this guy is lazy and greedy", let me tell the reasons why I'm doing this.
This bike is my heart and soul. It's my only transportation out here in the desert. The transmission died in mid-April 2023, and will cost approximately $1,500 USD to fix. Weighing out the numbers, it's still more economical to pay to fix the transmission versus hauling the bike to the trash dump to be destroyed.
Yes, I have a job. I work as as bouncer at a dive bar, and while the pay gets me by covering insurance premiums and gas in the tank, it doesn't go much beyond that. It certainly doesn't cover having to take Lyft/Uber rides everywhere, especially since the rates doubled about 2 years ago.
But this bike is also an icon for the community. I park it out front of my bar, right on the sidewalk like a dealership showcase. So many of my customers who come in have commented on that bike, and while I may be sentimental about this, I'd like to think it shows that gay men are still men, and can be as masculine as they want to be, have whatever hobbies they want, or be whatever they want to be, instead of perpetuating old stereotypes.
So I'm asking for help here. I'm a veteran (USMC) with 9 years' service, over 2 years time was deployment to Iraq. I'm still trying to keep people safe here in the desert, so any help given will be met with my utmost appreciation.
