Hello,
My children, Olivia and Fletcher have both been playing youth rugby for the last few years. They both have been playing for the Land Park Motley, which is a coed club (mostly boys) that teaches kids from 7-14 the game of rugby.
For boys, after they age out of youth rugby, they have many options in high school, but for girls, the options are limited. Because of this, Olivia and I (and with the support of the Motley leadership) decided to start a high school girls rugby club. The end game of this club is to hopefully develop more high school girls programs at nearby schools such as Christian Brothers, McClatchy, St. Francis, Sacramento High School and Kennedy.
The reason I am writing you is that our team has surpassed all of our goals in terms of turn out numbers and success on the field. Last year we travelled to tournaments in Las Vegas, Corvallis, Southern California and to the high school National Championships in Washington state, where we finished 9th in the country. This is pretty impressive considering that last year was our first year. We also had several girls get recognized in the rugby press and invited to the USA All-American rugby camp which pools the best in the country onto one team. We also won the NorCal Rugby Plate Championship and placed 2nd in the 7’s Championship. All of these trips were drivable, but this years National Championship is in Indiana and will require airfare. To play at Nationals will require quite a bit of money, we have allotted roughly $800-$900 dollars per girl. This includes registration, lodging, transportation and food. We have roughly 30 high school girls on the team and more than half of them will be able to attend on their own, but we estimate that we will have between 8-12 girls who will need either a partial or full scholarship to attend.
We need your help to make this happen for them, no donation is too small. We need to generate these funds asap, as we need to pay for much of the tournament upfront. The Nationals are May 19-20, 2017. Last year we raised over $3,000.00 and this year have up'd our goal to $5,000.00.
I thank you in advance for your support.
Best,
Curtis
