Pemba Dawa Sherpa
Hard working Father Loses Eye from Chainsaw Injury, Needs Urgent Help.
Pemba Dawa Sherpa (34 years old) was working as a carpenter for a monastery near the old Everest trail in Junbesi cutting wood planks. Tragically, he was severely injured when the chainsaw sent a piece of metal piercing his right eye.
After the injury, on November 17, he walked several miles to get a pickup truck to drive him to Phaplu Hospital, which could not help him as they did not have the expertise. Then he got on an airplane from Phaplu Airport to a Kathmandu Eye Hospital doctor who surgically removed the piece of chainsaw in his eye ball. Unfortunately, even after the surgery he lost his right eye.
This tragic event is a burden on his family, as he is the only bread winner for his family of four including himself. He is 34 years old and has two children, Soni age 9 and Nima age 7, who attend the school that Wangdowa led the construction at his home village of Phapre. He and his wife physically work very hard, as poor farmers in this remote village in Okhaldunga District of East Nepal.
When offered, Pemba takes on work to support his family, for basic survival needs. He is currently recovering in Kathmandu without any money in the pocket. He is very demoralized with the loss of one eye, and uncertainty for himself and family’s future. This simple, hardworking young man needs a timely response to fund rehab for hiving with only one eye, and to support his family buy food during the winter months.
Wangdowa Sherpa is his uncle, and is seasonal CA State Park aide, and currently unemployed, without an income. Wangdowa has led many humanitarian efforts for education, through his work in a non-profit, however, the non-profit doesn’t cover individual tragedies, and the monastery has already contributed what they can to his initial medical costs.
I, Wangdowa, want to help him rehabilitate to a new way of life with only one eye. He urgently needs funds to support his family including himself, medical expenses, and basic needs as he struggles to learn how to live with one eye and provide for his family.
Pemba Dawa and Wangdowa are earnestly hoping to raise $10,000 to help his family to live through this difficult time that will buy food for the family, clothing for family, medical care, and fund rehabilitation to develop new skills that will support his family. Every contribution makes a difference, and if possible, please help to raise funds to help Pemba Dawa and his family. Your kindness is highly appreciated.
