Andrew Cheng (31)…Harbour Bridge van driver

Donation protected
As a result of the Harbour Bridge crash on 7th March 2022, the driver of the electrical van first hit by the stolen, high speed SUV, will have ongoing medical bills for his recovery.

We’ve been told by his family his name is Andrew Cheng, a 31 year old from the Hills District. He’s a big hearted soul who without fail makes everyone laugh whenever they are around him. He’s a man who loves his family and friends, especially his incredible amazing girlfriend. They had plans to travel to Tasmania in the coming weeks to celebrate their 10 year anniversary.

Andrew’s injuries are extensive, with multiple fractures and breaks to the right side of his body where the impact from the SUV hit. He’s being monitored by his doctors in between surgeries.

I'm sure initial insurance payout will cover immediate costs but they will not cover costs throughout his life for ongoing medical bills and rehabilitation. Hopefully what we raise will be of some assistance to Andrew and his partner.

Update 12/03: Andrew is doing well, he’s alert and pain medication is being reduced. He’s had 2 surgeries to date to repair the breaks in his right leg (femur, knee and shin) along with the breaks in his right arm. His spirits seem high and he’s been loving being able to see family including his little niece and nephew. He’s blown away by the support and is so very grateful

Update 19/03: With what looks to be the last surgery out of the way. We see the beginning of light rehabilitation set to start for Andrew next week. Some really positive news that has Andrew in a good headspace. He’s keen to get back some independence and start to work on moving his body again. We’re so thankful to the amazing medical team treating him at St Vincents who have got him to this stage.

Andrew is absolutely blown away by all the well wishes, support and generosity of friends, family and complete strangers alike. Your love has truely been felt through this difficult time.

A note from the family: We want to express our most sincere thank you to all of the first responders and bystanders who attended the incident and assisted Andrew. Your quick thinking and heroic actions potentially saved lives that day and words can not express our gratitude to you.
