We never imagined we would be writing something as heartbreaking as this.

On behalf of everyone at Candy's Hound Rescue International, we are raising funds to help our dear rescue partners, Harbin Slaughterhouse Survivors, who have suffered an absolutely devastating fire at their rescue in China.

Today, (2nd November) they have lost precious lives in the most horrific circumstances imaginable.

At the time of writing, 6 dogs and 1 cat have tragically died, and heartbreakingly, we are expecting that number to rise.

These were innocent animals who had already been rescued from unimaginable suffering. They had survived the horrors of the meat trade and were finally somewhere they were supposed to be safe, loved and protected.

To think that their lives have ended this way is almost too much to bear.

The fire has also destroyed a building at the rescue, including the room where staff live. These are people who dedicate their lives to saving animals, often putting their own needs last to give these dogs a chance at a better future.

We know firsthand just how difficult rescue work in China is. The emotional, physical and financial challenges are enormous, even on a good day. But nothing could ever prepare anyone for a tragedy like this.

As fellow rescuers, we cannot simply stand by and watch our friends go through this alone.

That is why we have set up this fundraiser.

Our aim is to raise as much money as possible to help our rescue partners through this devastating time, with a particular focus on getting surviving dogs out of China and into the safety of trusted rescue organisations overseas.

Every dog we can help leave China is another life given the chance of a future free from fear and suffering.

We cannot bring back the beautiful souls who have been lost today, and that is something that will stay with us all. But we can do something for those who are still here.

We know times are difficult for everyone, and we never take your generosity for granted. Whether you can donate £5, £10 or simply share this fundraiser, please know that your kindness means the world.

These animals have already survived so much. They deserve the chance to live.

From both of us, and everyone at Candy's Hound Rescue International, thank you for standing with us and our rescue partners during this heartbreaking time.

With love and gratitude,

Vanessa & Kerry ❤️
