We are raising money to provide access to the HARAMBEE ARTS Pandemic Coloring Book, You are the Star of this Story. The book was designed by children born and raised in the Kibera slum, Nairobi. The story is one of resilience and determination, conceived by children who often struggle for survival in their daily life. Thanks to this initiative, they have been given an opportunity to reach out to others, and to share their wisdom and empathy.
You Are the Star of this Story, is in response to the increased need for a viable social-emotional outlet for children as they navigate through and cope with the adversity of the pandemic.
The book is comprised of a series of carefully selected directives designed to help children/youth safely express their thoughts and feelings, and to recover a sense of hope and freedom. By allowing children to express themselves we enable them to reduce their fear, anxiety and stress and ultimately to regain a sense of control over their changing lives.
Our Kenyan staff of 12 has been very focused on distributing the Pandemic Coloring Book widely. It has been printed in Kenya, New York City and California and we are hoping for a much wider distribution. So far, more than 100 teachers and counselors have been trained in the process, so that they are now able to share the book with children.
Your donation will make a huge impact. The funds will be used to:
1. Support hundreds of children, in Kenya and in the USA, to recover from pandemic related trauma.
2. Train hundreds of teachers and caregivers in the coloring book process, both in Kenya and in the USA.
3. Print additional copies of the book.
4. Enable our staff to travel throughout Kenya, to provide underserved communities with access to the book.
Inquiring Systems Inc, ISI, is our fiscal sponsor, supporting organizations working to make an impact at the systemic level. ISI provides fiscal sponsorship services to nonprofit organizations working in the Regenerative and Sustainability realm.
We also partner with the Kenya Association of Professional Counselors (KAPC).
