Hello!
We are a group of independent filmmakers from Orange County, CA. We are in pre-production of a short film called "Happy Rolls" that is shooting at the end of July. The crew consists of students and classmates from Saddleback College and those who are in the process of transferring to universities elsewhere. Everyone has worked so hard and is committed to make this picture the best that it can be.
The story follows a young girl named Jenny, who is navigating the line between following her traditional Vietnamese culture or conforming to American society. Her mother, Thuy, wants her to stay true to her Vietnamese roots, but Jenny opposes this due to being bullied at school. The important themes we want to highlight in this short are that of love, family, and cultural acceptance.
The reason for this GoFundMe would be to help assist with the costs of actors, a studio teacher, production design, and craft services. Although we are looking to hire non-union actresses, we would like them to be compensated accordingly and would need a studio teacher to be on set during school hours for the young girl playing Jenny. The location that we have locked, is hopefully going to be dressed as a typical Asian household, so we would like to give our PD department the resources that they need. Lastly, since we are students, all the crew are generously working for free and to gain experience, so the least we can do is to provide food and snacks that will keep their energy up.
