We Are Here For You, Khaidir Abu Jalil!

Donation protected
We hope you are having a safe and joyous December break with your loved ones. We organised this gofundme for Khaidir Abu Jalil after reading about his story in The Sydney Morning Herald on the 23/12/2020.

As reported in the news article, Khaidir has a rare and potentially fatal autoimmune disease that has severely impacted his health this year. He is being treated by specialists in Sydney, Australia. Treatment is ongoing due to the complexity and severity of his rare medical condition.

Based on our last meeting with Khaidir on the 25/12/2020:
1. The Malaysian consulate is now aware of his situation
2. A social worker is assigned to him to assist with visa requirements and accommodation. He needs to live close to the hospital once he is discharged late December 2020 as he will commence additional live saving therapies
3. Once he is discharged, he will need access to funds for daily living expenses such as rent, food, clothes, telecommunications etc.
4. He is in regular contact with his family in Malaysia. He states that his family does have the means to remain in touch
5. He now has a local social support system

Khaidir would like to express his deepest appreciation to the Malaysian community and everyone else who has stepped in, and is aware that should he require assistance with accommodation, food, legal representation, and things for daily living, he can always get in touch.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, given his immunocompromised state as well as considering his energy levels whilst he completes treatment, his capacity to entertain many well meaning visitors is limited. A Facebook group called "Friends of Khaidir" has been created for people who want to help. This group functions as an organised platform for his supporters to keep up to date and to step in with help should he request it. We aim to minimise risk of overwhelming and exhausting Khaidir with a bombardment of kind but currently unnecessary offers.

As he is still at the hospital, he has no storage area. The storage situation may not improve by much once he is moved into the shelter. His appetite is also quite poor due to treatment. With gratitude, he has very firmly and politely requested no more gifts and food deliveries.

He is incredibly touched by the outpouring of financial assistance. He expressed that he would like to use some of the GoFundMe proceeds for his medical treatments so that the hospital isn't stretching their resources too much on him.

Or if you prefer, you could donate through St. Vincent's Hope Healing and Humanity fund: https://www.supportstvincents.com.au/about-us/our-stories/hhh/

We encourage the spreading of this post on social platforms to your friends and family so that Khaidir is able to get back on his feet once he is discharged.

Once things settle down, Khaidir will meet with us to discuss funds transfer. We are engaging the services of a pro-bono lawyer to draft up an acknowledgement of remittance. The process will involve transparency and updates will be posted in the "Friends of Khaidir" FB group.

That's all for now. Thanks everyone.
