My name is Chris Slatt. I'm passionate about sustainable transportation, especially walking, biking, & public transit. For the last three years I've been running a group called Sustainable Mobility for Arlington County (SUSMO for short). SUSMO has accomplished a lot over the last few years, mostly making Arlington a better place to bike; here are a few of our wins from 2020 and our wins from 2019.
That said, for all of this time Sustainable Mobility for Arlington County has just been me. There's been no organization, no bank account, no office. Just one guy, some time, a domain name and cheap internet tools. Today that changes.
Today is my birthday, but it's also SUSMO's birthday. Today I filed SUSMO's Articles of Incorporation with Virginia and notified the IRS we intend to operate as a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization dedicated to education & advocacy on sustainable transportation. I've assembled a great Board of Directors to keep SUSMO on-track and we are headed to greater things this year.
We have an unprecedented opportunity to build back better after COVID. SUSMO will be there to make sure we do so in Arlington County. Being a real organization with funding will open up new doors for us to be even more effective advocates. I hope that you will help us launch strong out of the gate by donating today.
