Inspired by true events, Happy Birthday Mom, HBDM, is a multidisciplinary dance performance. It explores law enforcement practices and police brutality through original music, dance, animation, dialogue and spoken word. On her birthday, Mom discovers that her son is missing. While searching, she gets pulled over, assaulted, and arrested by a LaVernia police officer. Son has been detained by I.C.E. for a constitutionally questionable interrogation which lasts three days. This one-hour, working class story presentation demonstrates the need for criminal justice reform.
We are doing some rewriting, and making the story more current. These funds will be used to pay for animation, music, and writers.
Happy Birthday, Mom will be performed on August 30th at Urban-15 Group at 8:00PM.
