--------------

It is with a heavy heart we share the loss of Hans Wikkeling, 36 truly family to all who knew him. Hans went missing on September 23, 2019 and on October 17th his body was found on the shore in Davenport California.  We believe when Hans left home on the September 23rd he headed to the beach. We believe he passed the following day as his text messages went unanswered and he went missing until his body was found on the October 17th.

Hans was known for being a lover of nature but was especially at home at the beach. He loved to walk on the beach, swim (he was a very strong swimmer) and friends and family were well aware that sometimes he loved to sleep at the beach. While we will never know what happened down at the beach, we believe there are 2 possibilities.  Either Hans went to sleep on the beach and while asleep the tide carried him under or the other possibility is that he went walking along the rocks at the beach (there’s a 3 mile stretch of rock when the tide is out) and when the tide came in there was no place to escape and he was pulled in. After learning all of the facts over the past few days we do not believe he went swimming because he was found fully clothed and identified by his one shoe left on his foot and fingerprints. We don’t believe he would have gone into the ocean with his clothes on.

We will never know what truly happened however Hans' autopsy report stated that he had no drugs or alcohol in his system and no bodily harm or signs of foul play. His passing was due to salt water inhalation which means he passed due to drowning. This news has been devastating for family, friends and the community and we are struggling to understand a world without Hans in it.

Hans was known by all for being a kind, loving, playful, free spirit, adventurer and a world renowned Martial Artist. He became family to mostly all who knew him. He was a teacher, a mentor and a loving guide as well as a forever learner and a true lover of life. You cannot think of Hans without smiling at the way his gentle spirit touched both nature and people alike. Our hearts are heavy and it will take a lifetime to heal however we know Hans’ love for life and kindness is returned tenfold by all those who loved him as much as we do.

Whether you knew him as Kwanjangnim, Da Bckyrdrasslr, Da PlayingMantis, Da Grasshoppa, Shino, Sensei, Hansie ,Hanser or just Hans, we all knew how amazing and impactful his being was. Funds are now being raised in Hans’ honor for this memorial and in the coming weeks we will be holding a memorial to remember the immense source of light and enlightenment he was.

100% of the proceeds will go towards a public commemoration of Hans’ life with a celebration of trickin’, kickin’, and laughin’...and a fund dedicated to a few of Hans’ passions: helping the homeless and bringing hope and happiness to underprivileged kids.

We are putting together a video eulogy for Hans, so if you have awesome videos of him performing, speaking, or otherwise making an impact, please email or forward them to [email redacted]  If you would like to make a donation towards the event and charitable gift in Hans’ name please see attached link.

Further details on the event, venue, and time will be announced within the next two weeks but for now just continue to keep Hans, his family, friends, and students in your thoughts, prayers, and daily intentions.
