IT IS TIME.

I’m Han (they/them), I’m transmasc non-binary and I need help fundraising for my top surgery.

As a child, I remember so clearly feeling in flow and at peace with my body—running, swimming, and climbing trees with the joy of being at home in a body that felt like mine. Puberty was a slow drift away from that joyful embodiment, a painful loss of that connection, and left me with the reality of a body I no longer recognised as me. I think, since then, I’ve been trying to get back to that sense of belonging in myself. Top surgery is something I’ve wanted before I even knew it was an option.

My chest dysphoria has reached an unbearable point where top surgery in the next year has become a necessity. I want to be able to move through the world without being in a state of intensive dysphoria and dissociation—I deserve to feel happy and strong in my body.

The challenges of seeking gender-affirming care in the UK are now overwhelming. Due to decades of dangerous government hostility towards our health system, current waiting lists for initial consultations through the NHS are years long, and have already taken many lives. With April’s Supreme Court Ruling, the most recent expression of this country’s anti-trans hatred and hysteria, it’s looking bleak. Seeking this crucial care and support is so often gruelling, invasive, and presents many financial barriers—this makes me so angry, for all my trans siblings and for myself. That seeking this surgery privately is even a possibility for me, with support from my community, is a position I’m so lucky to be in.

I’m crowdfunding to raise £13,000 to fund the referrals, surgery itself and the care I’ll need before and after the operation while I’m not able to work. If I raise more than the total, I’ll pass on your donations to other trans people’s gender affirming surgery fundraisers.

It’s taken me a really long time to build up the courage to send this out into the world and it’s hard to put into words how life-changing and meaningful this surgery will be for me. Your donations mean so much. If you’re unable to donate, sharing is amazing too.
