Hello, my name is Hanna, and I am excited about my first field school experience. I was accepted to the Blackfriary Archaeological Field School in Trim, Ireland for the summer academic quarter 2024. It is a 6-week course that includes osteology, and I can’t wait!

I have been working very hard over the past number of years to reach my childhood dream of becoming an archaeologist so that I can study pre-Christian Europe and the era of conversion. This is an incredibly important step towards that goal.

I started out at Tacoma Community College (TCC) where I took extra classes to make up for not having a high school transcript due to having been homeschooled. After years of hard work, I graduated from TCC in 2022 with honors and transferred to the University of Washington.

During my first four quarters here at the University of Washington I have been on the quarterly Dean's List on three nonconsecutive occasions. My goal is to graduate having achieved the honor of being on the yearly Dean's List.

I am proud to say that I will be graduating with my BS in Archaeology Sciences this spring after which I plan on going into CRM to support myself though grad school.

This journey means a lot to me because my interest goes all the way back to childhood. I have always loved geology and history and combining those interests through archaeology is the perfect solution for me. I developed a particular interest in Norse culture which my family supported me in by joining the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA, a historical reenactment group). I used to believe that my dream was out of reach, but I didn’t let that stop me from reaching, and with a lot of hard work I am able to stretch closer and closer every day.
