Support Hannah’s brain surgery recovery

Hi everyone!

In early May, Hannah was rushed to a hospital in Washington D.C. after close friends and family found her very sick in her apartment. She was just days away from an incredible milestone: graduating from law school. At the hospital, she underwent procedures and scans to try and determine the cause of her sudden illness. She was found to have two abscesses in her brain, caused by an unknown infection. She was slowly recovering with antibiotic treatment and was discharged the day before her Howard Law graduation, in hopes that she would be able to walk at the ceremony. Unfortunately, she was unable to attend and returned to the hospital a day after being discharged. She had to watch the ceremony from afar, her classmates and professors cheering her on, and her mother walking in her place. Hannah graduated third in her class from Howard Law!

She was in the hospital for several weeks undergoing countless imaging studies, labs, and eventually a brain biopsy. They finally identified the bacteria that she had, and she began to show improvement. She was discharged, and family and friends helped move her things from D.C. back to Minnesota. Only a few short days after she returned home, she began having a bad headache and difficulty finding her words. She was rushed to the Mayo Clinic, where she underwent life-saving surgery after one of the abscesses had grown, and an external ventricular drain was placed. She spent several weeks in the ICU, with many ups and downs throughout her stay there, eventually getting well enough to go home.

Hannah is currently doing well in her recovery and is excited to be home in Red Wing. She has a long road ahead of her and we do not want her to worry financially during this time, as she should be putting all of her energy towards her recovery.

Although she will be unable to take the bar exam in July this year, Hannah hopes to take the bar exam in February of next year and looks forward to pursuing her dreams of being a public interest lawyer!
