Hannah's POTS Treatment Program
Hey! Thanks so much for visiting Hannah's page. I'm Cory Steiner and I've created this site for my wife, Hannah Steiner. You likely already know her and how wonderful she is and what's been going on with her body. Hannah has been suffering through a variety of many health challenges for the past year and half, although the onsets of this started even before that. Currently, the main offenders to her normalcy and contribute to extreme fatigue, sensitivity to heat, nausea, headaches, rapid heart beats, weaknees, extreme dizziness, and more are caused by a gene mutation called MTHFR, Hypothyroidism, and POTS. Hannah was diagnosed with POTS through an Autonomic test at UTSW last December. If you would like to know more details about this, please check out Hannah's blog at: https://hannahsteinerblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/25/first-blog-post/.
There is really only one treatment center available to help POTS patients and it happens to be located in Dallas, TX, which is about 40 minutes from our house! Praise God for this! We found out that they have one week and two week intensive programs for out of town patients and that insurance doesn't cover them. They are both $6,000 each. When Hannah mentioned she was a local, they informed her that she could be seen once or twice per week and that insurance would pay a portion and we'd have $160 each visit. So, that's $320 to get treatment each week.
Hannah has been able to get these treatments and at the time I'm writing this, she has been 10 times. She gets to go either during the time that our boys are at mother's day out or if I take off of work and flex my schedule to be with our boys so she can go get treatment. Hannah is seeing some positive affects of the biofeedback, heart rate regulation and breathing treatments, but the pace at which this is going is very challenging and discouraging. Her progress right now is being stunted by the amount of time that goes in between each visit.
She gets to talk to patients in the waiting room there for the two week program and tell of how the program is helping them drastically from what their lives were like pre-program. Along with fellow patients, Hannah's doctor has also suggested the treatment program as being the best option for her right now.
After several consultations with the lead doctor at the POTS treatment clinic, conversations between Hannah and myself, and seeking clarity, grace, and wisdom from the LORD, we are going to pursue doing the one week intensive treatment program and since we live so close, Hannah can continue going on an as needed basis after the program. We don't have the money to pay for this right now but have taken steps to get the treatment anyway, having put down a deposit two days ago to get her on the schedule for early March. We had to go ahead and move quickly to schedule it being that 1. it fills up quickly and 2. our choice of continuing as a local patient or doing the one week treatment program had to be made since the following steps for treatment would change either way based on our decision. They are actually going to let Hannah just do the first week of the 2 week program for $3,000 because of some of the reasons I mentioned above. In addition to the cost of the treatment center, the doctors recommend not returning home after the treatment but to stay at a hotel and focus on the healing and practicing the learnings and exercises so that the week is consumed with focusing solely on healing. So, we are going to do that. As you may know, we don't have family local, so we have a wonderful friend who keeps our kids for dates and things that has agreed to help so I can still work some of the week. We are hopeful that this treatment will contribute to Hannah (and the rest of us) being able to live a normal life again.
