Hannah Garcia, my wife, was diagnosed with Stage 3 IBC (Inflammatory Breast Cancer) on July 29, 2014, very unexpected. We had just gotten back from our family vacation and that’s when she performed a self-examination and felt the cancer on her left breast. We immediately set an appointment with her DR. and a week later is when we were informed that Hannah tested positive for IBC. What is inflammatory breast cancer? Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare and very aggressive disease in which cancer cells block lymph vessels in the skin of the breast. This type of breast cancer is called “inflammatory” because the breast often looks swollen and red, or “inflamed.” Inflammatory breast cancer accounts for only 1 to 5 percent of all breast cancers diagnosed in the United States. Inflammatory breast cancer progresses rapidly, often in a matter of weeks or months.
Hannah is currently undergoing Chemotherapy treatment in El Paso, TX. and travels to Houston, TX. at MD Anderson for progress check up's by IBC specialist. Hannah will also be required to check into MD Anderson for 5 weeks to undergo radiation, a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. We are currently covered at 70% for our insurance plan and I would like to and will relieve as much stress for Hannah during this difficult time. I thought I could do this on my own, however as time goes on, times get tougher. Thanks in advance for your support.
