“I Would Walk 500 Miles...” A Celebration of Life for Our Dad, David Buchanan.

In honour of our amazing Dad, Amy and I have laced up our boots and are taking on a heartfelt challenge: to walk 1,000 miles in a year, 500 miles each, in his memory.

Why 1,000 miles? Well, if you know our family, you’ll know The Proclaimers and their iconic song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” is more than just a tune, it’s our family anthem. It’s loud, proud, and full of heart. So what better way to celebrate his life than by walking those 500 miles... and 500 more?

We’re doing this to mark a very special milestone, his 10 year anniversary. We started on 14th September 2025 and aim to have it completed for 12th September 2026. This is our way of celebrating his life, remembering the incredible man he was, and carrying his spirit with us.

Our goal is to raise £500 for CISWO, the coal mining charity who support former miners and their families. This charity allows us to honour Dad’s life work and the community he was proud to be part of. That’s £1 for every mile we walk! More than that, we want to cherish the man he was, and make him proud every step of the way.

Whether you’re able to donate, cheer us on or even walk a mile or more with us because most importantly this isn’t just our walk, we’d love for our family and friends to join us throughout the year! Come share stories, memories, and laughs! Let’s make this a true celebration together and reflect on life in his absence over the last 10 years.
