Dear Friends and Family,
Many of you know of Hannah Cross’s diagnosis of Burkitt’s lymphoma. Major surgery to remove intestinal tumors, removal of part of her intestine and other tumorous organ tissues was performed right after Hannah was sent by ambulance to Denver Children’s Hospital on November 22. This cancer of the lymphatic system, though extremely rare and particularly aggressive, responds well to the most intense chemotherapy. Hannah has endured two rounds of chemotherapy, the second round last Saturday after she returned to the hospital two weeks ago in a crisis state after spending only a couple of days at home. She receives medications and nutrients via an IV port and a feeding tube as she is unable to eat. Hannah experiences frequent attacks of severe pain and high doses of medications are required to control it.
We know Hannah’s vibrant, funny, and optimistic personality. We are thrilled and relieved to know that her sense of humor breaks through during instances of physical improvement.
Due to tight COVID 19 restrictions at Denver Children’s, Jill and Mike tend to Hannah’s needs alone at the bedside. Hannah is not allowed other visitors. Mike and Jill need to be there for the duration of Hannah’s chemotherapy which, barring complications, continues through April 2021 Hospitalization seems likely to occur even if Hannah makes it home to be with her family some of that time.
There are several ways you can help. First, pray for Hannah, Jill, Mike, and the boys. Second, contribute any amount, if your heart feels moved to. Donations will be used to help with medical expenses and to relieve the financial burden of Jill taking family medical leave from her job.
Hannah hopes to spend Christmas and beyond with her family at home. Yet, that wish is complicated by chemotherapy and all its side effects. Please be assured that Hannah’s strength is boosted through your words of encouragement at Hannah Rae | CaringBridge. Keep the inspiration coming – please! And, share her story with others!
Thank you so much for inspiring Hannah on her journey and God bless you in doing so.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you. Let’s all hope for a New Year full of hope and love for Hannah.
