Hannah Derr Education Fund

Ellie Derr was diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2010. Her surgeon gave her six months to live given the high mortality rate of this aggressive cancer. Over the course of the next seven years, she underwent four major abdominal surgeries, six weeks of radiation treatments, nearly 36 months of chemotherapy treatments, and countless doctor and laboratory visits. She lost her hair so many times she considered simply keeping her head  permanently shaved. The debilitating side effects of her chemical treatments were always painful reminders of her fight to stay alive. Ellie continued a courageous battle against her disease, determined to remain in her daughter's life for as long as possible. She had every reason to throw in the towel and give up on many occasions. Her sarcoma physician informed her that in his ten years of treating patients for cancer, she was the only patient who never complained or wept in discouragement of her condition. Through a sheer will to live and a boundless love for life, Ellie has demonstrated a quality of resilience that few possess. 

Sadly, her battle with her body was brought to an end on February 26, 2018. She leaves behind her daughter, Hannah, and loving husband, Dave. It is Ellie's wish that all donations to her memorial be placed in a fund for Hannah's education.
