Hannah Bakery's Permanent Location

(Did you watch that video up there?!)

It's finally time... I'm converting a shipping container into my bakery! I need a place to practice my craft and to make y'all ALL of the banana bread you could ever want! (And if you don't live in Austin, it will give you an excuse to come visit me, please and thank you!)

If you don't know me, my name is Hannah Casparian. I am a baker, dietitian, and I love food more than anything else...except maybe babies. My love for food goes farther back than my obsession with dietary fiber and disdain for saturated fats. I’ve wanted to be a baker and chef as long as I can remember. That calling was strengthened when I was eleven after my family moved to Florence, Italy, and I began baking and selling American pastries to the homesick expatriate community there. Later I honed my skills in the pastry and baking program at the Culinary Institute of America, and went on to receive a bachelor of nutritional sciences.

It wasn’t until I moved to Austin, and fell in love with this city, that I knew I’d found the place I wanted to put down roots. Moving here eleven years ago allowed me to cultivate my passion for a local and sustainable lifestyle with like-minded people. I volunteered with the Sustainable Food Center and joined the board of Slow Food Austin. I love that I get to live in a place where people care; a place where I can learn and be motivated to share my passion for delicious, healthful food that is thoughtfully and responsibly sourced. When I can incorporate into my recipes fresh, seasonal vegetables from local, urban farms and flavorful heirloom grains from Barton Springs Mill in Dripping Springs AND bring the resulting goodness to my community, that's me at my happiest! Actually, me at my absolute happiness would be making those things and hanging out with you at the bakery while you eat it... with your baby.

I am so excited to finally begin creating a permanent space for this bakery to cultivate, grow and feed the community I love. The good news is I'm already halfway there,  but I hope you’ll help me finish! The shipping container is already framed out and lives outside the workshop of the brilliant craftsman, Brockett Hamilton, who is helping me make my thirty-year-dream come true. Instead of bank loans and huge investments from strangers, I have come to this forum to ask my friends, family and Austin community to contribute to my startup phase, so that I can have a place to make you things I know you’ll love. Banana bread, zucchini bread, granola, cakes, cookies, brownies, freshly baked pita and spreads, focaccia, focaccia pizzas, Irish soda bread, vollkornbrot, grain salads, bean salads, raw salads, soup, whatever else I feel like making that day, whatever's in season! I'm thrilled to finally bring to Austin my brand of delicious, healthy, thoughtful food made with love and wrapped in compostable packaging.

I have been daydreaming and planning the details of  this business since I was six years old. I literally have notes to myself that date back 25-30 years listing the tiniest details for my bakery. So now, I’m asking for your financial consideration to help me realize this vision! Here's where your money will be going:

1. Finishing the shipping container build-out; wood, steel, flooring, paint, plumbing, electricity.

2. Equipment; industrial oven, refrigerator/freezer, sinks, air conditioner...ya' know Texas+climate change.

3. Ingredients! Securing an initial inventory will allow me to focus on efficiency and productivity during the first few critical months.

4. First couple month's rent in a prime location! (Given the possibility that it may change, I won't disclose the spot just yet, but if all works according to plan, there is a gem of a spot in East Austin that I know you will love as much as I do.)

........

To thank you, I would like to reciprocate with a token from my hands and heart.

I'd like to thank everyone who donates in any amount. Every contribution to this simmering pot is so gratefully received. (Just let me know if you are social-media-shout-out-shy, and I will keep the thanks between us!)

$50 - $99
I'll be sending you a handful of these reusable wooden coins (literal tokens!), redeemable for a coffee or tea to enjoy with your Hannah-Baked goods!

$100 - $199
You'll be getting this hand-screenprinted, eco canvas bag with my logo (created by Katie Allcorn) surrounded by molecules of complex carbohydrates (a.k.a. dietary fiber, a cornerstone of my food philosophy, and the image tattooed on my left shoulder...I carry it around on MY shoulder, and with this bag, you can too!)

$200+
You'll receive the aforementioned canvas bag AND this reusable, cork-bottomed to-go mug! Bring it in for free coffee or tea during the grand opening month!

$500+
I want you to carry my awesome canvas bag, AND a handcrafted mug by my ceramicist friend, Kim Rohrs of Whiskey and Clay. I'll fill up your first coffee or tea of the day for six months! (Ideally I'll have space to keep your mug at the bakery, if you choose, so it's always there when you visit. And if you don't live in Austin, you'll think of me when you caffeinate with a bag of locally roasted coffee beans.)

$1,000
Four seats at any pop-up dinner at the bakery (I plan to make these a regular occurrence). Austin is the perfect town to sit under the party-lit trees with laughter and food. For every +$250 add an additional seat for a friend!

$5,000+
Let me know if you're interested in a large-sum investment, and we can discuss what the returns and agreement for that look like.

--- Please give me your address and email address (in case I don't have them) so I can send you your thank you tokens, and so I can keep you updated!

                                                                                                       ......................

I must give a million thank yous to Chris Shea for putting up with my inabilities on camera, and being an overall amazing director, cinematographer and editor! And thank you to Peter Bayne for contributing his impressive musical talent!

Thank you to Lisa Woods and Ashley Haguewood (apparently I only work with photographers with "wood" in their names!)...for the truly stunning photography used in this campaign, and in my life generally.

Katie Allcorn and Paige Tyler are both brilliant graphic designer friends who have shared their gifts with me, and who I have the immense joy to have in my life.

Thank you, Brockett for your patience and craftsmanship. Collaborating with you on this project has been, and continues to be so inspiring and motivating!

Oh, and of course to Peter, Marguerite and Rachel FOR my life, literally and figuratively.

And to YOU. You're a champ for reading this far ;-) And if I've sent this to you, YOU have impacted my life. I take great joy and have endless gratitude for the always-expanding community of wonderful people I know. If I didn't personally send this to you, the thread that got you here is the meaning of life to me. Community and connection. And love and passion for food, of course!
