Hannah and Hailey healing from COVID-19

As some of you may know in late August Hannah Miedema at 34 weeks pregnant contracted Delta Covid 19. A couple of days after initially being told she had mild pneumonia in both her lungs, I came to check on her and found her O2 sats in the 70’s.  That day she was admitted to her local hospital under a 5 day treatment plan. 4 days later she asked her sisters and mom to FaceTime her in order to pray because she was getting worse not better. After seeing her on FT pale, lethargic and breathless, Josh went to the hospital and pleaded she be looked at. Within a short amount of time after being at first accepted and then sent back to Hanford from Fresno because of bed availability it was decided to perform an emergency C Section. Hailey was born at 36 weeks healthy at 5 lbs 14 oz. She was placed beside Hannah’s face for a few seconds and quickly whisked away. All was well until it suddenly wasn’t. We would later learn that Delta Covid is especially hard on pregnant women. Hannah went from improved SATs to low again and it was decided that she be ventilated and flown via helicopter to UCLA. She was put in a coma, then with still little improvement put on ECMO. Each day presented complications, bleeding, clotting, still low SATs, open C section, rapid heart rate etc. There was discussion of long term “weeks and weeks” of ECMO and a potential lung transplant. Through so much prayer and diligent oversight by her father (who watched her via an iPad 24/7) and her Aunt Jeryl (a nurse practitioner and research expert with a PHD in pulmonology) she suddenly almost at once took a positive turn woke up and begged never to be sedated again. Within a short amount of time and with varying opinions we decided that the depression of being isolated and experiencing Ketamine related nightmares was hindering her recovery so we brought her out of the hospital on oxygen but close to UCLA to meet her newborn and reconnect with her husband and two toddlers and recover under careful supervision. Because of the extent of her illness she has many issues to heal from; her lungs, a botched incision, a high heart rate, a constant cough, giving birth and persistent nightmares etc. We worried about a readmission yesterday when her normally low 90’s SATs dipped to 70’s but we are slowing her activity down and trying to find the balance of letting tough Hannah driven by her love for her family recover but not extend herself. Josh has a new job as a teacher and is limited in the days he can take off. Unfortunately, they just moved to a new area and are hours away from most of their support network. Today the first bill and insurance denial came. We have no idea what the financial impact of this will be but we are grateful that she and Hailey are tough and alive! We are looking into home health care and praying she will be able to focus on healing instead of worrying about bills and expenses.
Please consider praying and if you can donating to their financial and medical and other needs. We appreciate ALL of the love and prayers and support they have received from coolers of donated breast milk to messages of encouragement. Any funds received in excess of their needs will be donated to a Pregnant Mothers with Covid charity. Thank you so much! PLEASE SHARE if you can.
