Help Hannah Overcome TBMeningitis–Support Her Fight for Life

Queridos amigos, familiares y comunidad, hoy acudimos a ustedes con el corazón en la mano para pedir su apoyo y solidaridad. Nuestra querida Hannah ha estado librando una batalla muy difícil, y cualquier contribución, por pequeña que sea, marcará una gran diferencia en su vida y en la de su familia. A continuación, compartimos su historia:

Hanna, desde el año pasado, ha luchado contra la Meningitis TB y la Hidrocefalia (abajo explicamos que es esta enfermedad). Su tratamiento fue intenso; estuvo en coma, recuperándose y luchando por su vida. Pensamos que había ganado la batalla cuando este pasado enero se le colocó una válvula ventrículo-peritoneal (VP) para drenar el líquido cefalorraquídeo en su cerebro. Se mostró estable por unos meses y hasta regresó a clases, pero solo pudo asistir dos días cuando los síntomas de dolor de cabeza y agotamiento reaparecieron, y sufrió un derrame cerebral que paralizó parte de su rostro.

Hanna cumple 13 años mañana, 15 de marzo. Hoy será sometida a una cirugía de emergencia donde le abrirán el cráneo para extraer un absceso generado por el retorno agresivo de la infección bacteriana. Será inducida nuevamente a un coma por unos días para prevenir daños permanentes en su cerebro. Antes de entrar a cirugía, estaba con mucho dolor, pero pidió que le cantáramos “Las Mañanitas” porque se iba a perder su cumpleaños; le dijimos que despertaría sin dolor y que Dios la acompañaría siempre.

100% de los fondos recaudados serán destinados a cubrir los gastos médicos.

Que es Meningitis TB?

Meningitis TB es una infección grave en la que la bacteria de la tuberculosis afecta las membranas que protegen el cerebro y la médula espinal. Esto causa inflamación y puede producir síntomas como dolor de cabeza, fiebre, vómito y en algunos casos, daños en el sistema nervioso.

Que es Hidrocefalia?

Hidrocefalia ocurre cuando se acumula demasiado líquido en el interior del cerebro, lo que aumenta la presión y puede dañar las células cerebrales. Para aliviar esa presión, a veces se coloca una válvula o “shunt” que ayuda a drenar el exceso de líquido.

Dear friends, family, and community, we come to you today with our hearts in our hands to ask for your support and solidarity. Our dear Hannah has been fighting a very difficult battle, and any contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference in her life and her family’s. Below, we share her story:

Hanna has been battling TB Meningitis and Hydrocephalus (we explain these conditions below) since last year. Her treatment has been intense; she was in a coma, recovering and fighting for her life. We thought she had won the battle when this past January, she had a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placed to drain the cerebrospinal fluid in her brain. She seemed stable for a few months and even returned to school, but she only managed to attend for two days when her headache and exhaustion symptoms came back, and she suffered a stroke that paralyzed part of her face.

Hanna turns 13 tomorrow March 15. Today, she will undergo emergency surgery to open her skull and remove an abscess caused by the aggressive return of the bacterial infection. She will be placed in an induced coma again for a few days to prevent permanent brain damage. Before going into surgery, she was in severe pain but asked us to sing “Las Mañanitas” to her because she would miss her birthday; we told her she would wake up pain-free and that God would always be by her side.

100% of all funds raised will go toward medical expenses.

What is TB Meningitis?

TB Meningitis is a serious infection in which the tuberculosis bacteria affect the membranes that protect the brain and spinal cord. This causes inflammation and can lead to symptoms such as headaches, fever, vomiting, and, in some cases, damage to the nervous system.

What is Hydrocephalus?

Hydrocephalus occurs when too much fluid builds up inside the brain, increasing pressure and potentially harming brain cells. To relieve this pressure, a valve or “shunt” is sometimes placed to drain the excess fluid.
