Han Mu Do Breaks Cancer

"Han, I am optimistic I can set and achieve high goals."

Grand Master Donald Kimm has been optimistic in his fight against cancer. In addition to the student creed, Donald’s daily mantras also include "I’m feeling Good!" GM Kimm's goal is to be cancer free. Diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer in January 2019, he has been in the fight of his life to get rid of this disease. Being optimistic about reaching his goal has helped him surpass every marker that the doctors have thrown at him. As hard as this battle is for him you can still see Donald's personality shining through.



"Mu, I train to balance body, mind, and spirit!"

Being the son of Dojanim He-Young Kimm has its perks including a lifetime of training and insight. GM Kimm will be the first to say that his training is what is getting him through this. He went into treatment with a strong body that was prepared to fight back. He has been going through months of treatment now and his body has been weakened but his mind and spirit are still strong. Ki breathing, focus, and indomitable spirt help GM Kimm persevere week after week as he pushes through his treatments.



"Do, I understand my duty to better myself, help others, and make a better world."

Currently GM Kimm's job is to get better. On his daily schedule he has to rest, drink fluids, and eat to maintain his strength. All these things are challenges in his current condition. The treatments have affected his body, making simple tasks such as drinking fluids and eating very difficult.

Han Mu Do students worldwide have learned from the Kimms’ teachings. Their family has brought us Han Mu Do and taught us how to use it in our daily lives. It is easy for us to focus solely on the training aspect of our martial art, but there is so much more involved. One of our three tenants is, "To help others," and now is our chance to do that. We need to give back to the family that has given so much to us. It is time for us as an association to help the Kimms and support the Handowan.
