Hanlon family cabin and fishing gear recovery fund

Donation protected
On June 6, 2020 the Hanlon family lost two cabins to a fire. This a devastating loss, though we are grateful that no one was injured. These cabins supported our subsistence and commercial fishing livelihoods and also housed countless memories and invaluable experiences.

Not only were the cabins a total loss, but also approximately $6,000 worth of power tools, hunting guns, 3 chain saws for the smoke house and wood stove, a wood stove that students made for their teacher Mrs. Hanlon, a chain saw mill, 20 shackles of new web for sockeye, fish totes, black smith tools, and everything needed to live away from electricity and water/sewer were all claimed by the fire.

The Situk cabins are where our family spent half of the summers. Much time and finances have been invested to build and maintain this home away from home.

Many community members have reached out, offering comfort through this trying time and to help clear the rubble. The love and support from the community of Yakutat and beyond has been overwhelming.

Any financial contribution to help with the cabin rebuild and to replace all commercial fishing gear and other values is appreciated. There will be a complementary fundraising auction organized by Gloria Wolfe as well.

Gunalcheesh for upholding us during this time of need.
