Hank's Failed Superman Attempt
Donation protected
On Thursday January 24, Hank and Tipperary were enjoying a walk in the Elora Gorge. Hank, being the rambunctious boy he is, jumped on a lookout barrier, slipped, and fell roughly 70 ft to the base of the gorge. We were convinced we had lost our little guy. When Brent leaned over the edge of the wall, he called Hank's name, and a tiny little head looked up at him, pleading for help. Against all odds, Hank had survived, but not without sustaining serious injury. The OPP responded to our call, and dispatched fire and rescue shortly after. The amazing people at Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue scaled into the gorge and rescued him. We rushed Hank to an emergency veterinarian as he had an open fracture on his front left leg and potentially other unseen injuries from his fall.
Hank was thoroughly examined, stabilized, and kept overnight, and was referred to an orthopedic surgeon to repair his broken leg. Hank underwent surgery on Friday afternoon to set and reinforce his broken bones with a metal plate and screws. He was again kept overnight and we were lucky enough to bring our little guy home on Saturday afternoon in what was a traumatic and ultimately very costly ordeal.
Within the vet costs are the price of the surgery (anesthetic, plate and screws to repair the bone, blood tests, IVs, etc.), as well as the costs of the examinations, x-rays, bandages and overnight stays. These were all necessary to make sure Hank would survive this potentially life threatening event. If you donate to this cause, you will be helping us pay back this large vet bill, as well as helping us with ongoing expenses from follow-up appointments (additional medications, x-rays, bandage changes, etc.).
We need your help. As two graduate students, we did not have enough money saved for an unplanned expense of this magnitude. This will help Hank continue to get the best care he needs, so that he can heal properly, without any further complications. We are so grateful for any donation, because every little bit helps. Please help us get back on our feet!
