“Hands, Please!” For Emma Hubbard

Dear Friends,
I am reaching out on behalf of a kind friend and healer, Emma Hubbard who has come into some challenging times. Since October 2022, she has been dealing with increasingly frustrating and sporadic headaches, and after some medical imaging was encouraged to have surgery to remedy a build up of tissue around the base of her head/top of her spine. Initially, the imaging was interpreted as a chiari malformation, but her surgeon is planning to do a biopsy to investigate if the inflamed tissue is actually a tumor.
This is the very beginning of her process, and while respecting Emma’s privacy, we will try to keep you as updated as possible. Her first surgery will be Friday, February 3. Emma’s recovery will be 2-3 nights in the hospital, and will need 4-6 weeks before returning to work, but will still not be able to have a full client load upon return. Because she is considered an independent contractor/self-employed as a massage therapist, she is not able to collect on disability, but she luckily does have some insurance. However, this will likely not cover all of her hospital bills, and definitely not her cost of living. If she doesn’t work, she doesn’t get paid, and this is where we come in.
A little background: When I first moved to Boston in 2017, Emma welcomed me with open arms to Little Donkey (a restaurant at which we both worked), and over the past six years has been an incredibly warm friend, confidant, and personal healer. As she transitioned from the bar to the massage table, she was extremely generous with her time and talent to her friends and family in the service industry. I guarantee you would hear hundreds of the same story if you asked anyone who has ever had the pleasure of coming into her orb of presence either on a bar or massage table. As a consistent helping hand, it’s not lost on me that it’s her turn to sow the goodness she’s reaped.
Even if it’s just $2, one of the world’s kindest hearts needs our help. Please share far and wide!
