Help The Lovely Handouka Family for Violetta
Donation protected
I am setting this gofundme page up for my best friend Artemis Handouka and her family. They will do anything for anyone and never ask for anything for themselves. Their 15 year old daughter Violetta has recently been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma which is a rare type of bone cancer that requires surgery and intensive chemotherapy. She has had a full knee replacement numerous blood transfusions and months of Chemotherapy she is now in cycle 5.
Artemis and Charlie who have two sons that still need their attention tried in vain to juggle the hospital appointments and shift work whilst also coming to terms with the fact that their daughter will have a very hard year ahead of her.
After sitting down as a family, it was decided Artemis was to take 6 months off work as unpaid leave from Waitrose in Kingston she loves her job but obviously loves her daughter more. This has also now been extended at Christmas for a further 4 months due to more treatment being required for Violetta. She has not made a fuss about the loss of money, but I can see it is starting to hit them badly. As ever, Artemis is more concerned about making sure her daughter gets the most care and that she will always be there for her whatever the time day or night more than she is about how they will manage financially. Violetta is very grateful of this having her mum by her side every step.
As I watch them together through this treatment, they have such a special bond as a family but I can see the strain the lack of money is having on them. I would love to try and help take away the strain so this gofundme page is to help keep Artemis at home with her daughter for as long as she needs. It is to help cover the costs of living basics from travel expenses to appointments, their weekly shop or household bills.
This is a little bit about their story. When Violetta was a baby she was struck down with an illness that even the hospitals never really understood and didn't come up with a diagnosis. We nearly lost her and that was scary. Violetta has had to have many operations and lots of suffering to repair the damage the illness had caused over the years without any fuss. Just when she was enjoying a normal life as a teenager, this year (2016) at the age of 14 she got a lump that started to appear on her knee. The doctors did not seem to be worried and said it is probably growing pains as they do....... when it got so big, bad and painful, finally a scan and MRI's were ordered and unfortunately Osteosarcoma which is a rare type of bone tumour that requires intensive chemotherapy and surgery was diagnosed and so the treatment begun.
I am not asking for lots of money, but lots of little donations will really make a difference. I hope you understand why I am doing this and thanks so much for reading their story.
