Handicap Van For Niklas Salewski
Donation protected
In 2016 before his 7th birthday, after a series of tests, Niklas was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. DMD is a progressive muscle wasting disease. It results from the defective gene, responsible for producing the key muscle protein dystrophin; without it, cells become damaged and die resulting in heart and breathing failure. The Good news is that new gene based therapies and Exon skipping has shown encouraging results but is applicable pending on exon.
Niklas turns 12 this November and his progression is making the simplest tasks become difficult like sitting up,standing and walking.
We need your help in purchasing an accessible side entry van. Our 7 ft ,50 pound aluminum suitcase ramp that we use to load Niklas' chair in the SUV. It has become very cumbersome and unsafe in parking lots with inattentive drivers.
Niklas has grown and manually loading and unloading him into the truck is becoming increasingly straining; with a handicap van Niklas will be able to drive in and remain seated in his chair.
With dad working overtime and mom working full time, she can have the flexibility to run to the grocery store, doctor's appointments, picking up and drop off Niklas and his sister Andrea to and from school.
The Salewski family is working on auto financing and due to many unexpected circumstances/ losses throughout their relocation from HI to FL, their finances have become very limited.
We appreciate your support!
