Handicap home adjustments
Donation protected
My name is Jennifer and things changed for my family when my husband, Rich, was diagnosed with progressive MS in 2019. Unfortunately, it has been progressing at an aggressive pace and we need to make adjustments to our home so that he can continue to live in our home. Stairs have become an impossibility and Rich needs to use a wheelchair to navigate throughout the home.
To get in the home, we will need a ramp which has been quoted at $3500-$5000 to install. Once inside, many of our doorways are too narrow for his wheelchair. He can no longer get upstairs to the bedroom and he cannot navigate in the bathroom. All together, the internal repairs have been quoted at $29000 - $36000. Once we move the bedroom downstairs, we will also need a hospital style bed that can be raised and lowered for transfers.
We have been managing the exorbitant medical bills for the last several years and have used up our savings. Last year, our medical expenses were over $18000. Throughout my life, whenever I needed anything, I was able to work harder to reach my goals. With two small children, Xavier, 9 and Quin, 6, and with Rich needed help with daily needs like dressing, I am limited to how much I can work. There is no way for us to afford these home improvements without help.
We wish we did not need to ask for help, but we hope that you will. Before this happened, I witnessed Rich helping anyone whenever help was needed. He is the kindest and most generous person I have ever met. It is one of the many reasons that I love him. If anyone is deserving of your kindness, it is him. He is a beautiful soul and just needs a little help to lead a full life. Thank you for considering this plea for assistance.
