Mike and Kristina Rambow need to purchase a handicap accessible van for their 5 year old daughter Sofia. As you can imagine, they are extremely expensive, and this sweet family of four (big brother Troy too) could use some help. Please consider a donation of any size.
Sofia's Story
On March 29th, 2023, Sofia's life changed forever when she suddenly collapsed, losing nearly all movement from the neck down. Rushed to St. Luke's Children's Hospital, she was diagnosed with acute flaccid myelitis, also known as AFM, a rare condition affecting the spinal cord and hindering the brain's ability to communicate with the muscles. For a month, Sophia received critical care in the pediatric intensive care unit, during which her family witnessed the dedication and expertise of the medical team, who worked tirelessly to support Sofia. In January 2024, Sofia underwent a nerve transfer surgery to help her regain function in her right arm, which had been severely affected by AFM. The surgery was a huge success and within months Sophia maintained a significant amount of function in her right arm, a milestone that filled her family with hope and gratitude.
- Sofia's current wheelchair weighs about 80 lb and has to be lifted into their vehicle and Sofia carried to the backseat, but she is going to be getting a new 300 lb wheelchair very soon, which will be great because she is starting kindergarten this year! The problem is the Rambow's current vehicle, a 2016 Chevy Equinox will not be able to accommodate Sofia and her new wheelchair. The new vehicle with adaptation will allow Sophia to move up a ramp into the vehicle and then the wheelchair will be locked in place. It will give her so much independence and lessen the burden on her family.
- Sofia has multiple therapy sessions in Boise each week and also goes to intensive therapy out of state. The family needs a reliable vehicle with low miles!
- The need is great and with school starting, the need is now. I am hoping that our amazing community that has the biggest heart will come alongside this family and show them a lot of love.
