Hana Hou Music Program Inaugural Fundraiser

Aloha! My name is Kisa Uradomo, and I am a violinist born and raised on the island of Maui, Hawai’i! I grew up in Kula and have since left to pursue my musical studies on the mainland. Ever since leaving Hawai’i, I have dreamed of being able to come home and give back to my community through my music. Having met so many wonderful musicians here, I would like to bring my colleagues and friends back home to provide concerts for music students and their families on Maui.

What is Hana Hou?

We’ve decided to launch the Hana Hou Music Program, which seeks to act as a supplement for music education on Maui. Through the Hana Hou Music Program, we will be giving a series of presentations and performances over several days to help reinforce students’ passion for music. Through the creation of Hana Hou, something essential to us was to get the thoughts and opinions of music educators on the island as they know the needs of their students most. I’ll be inviting my string quartet, the Florestan Quartet, consisting of Alex Ott on violin, Heejo Yang on viola and Terrance Lo on cello. In addition, I’ve also been assisted by a team of my friends to help organize this, including Diane Park, a pianist, my fiancé Colin Crake, a saxophonist, and Liz Smith, a violinist and arts administrator.

When and Where?
From August 29th to September 9th, my friends and I will visit plenty of schools and music programs on Maui to perform, including:

  • King Kekaulike High School
  • Baldwin High School
  • Lahaina Luna High School
  • Maui High School
  • Pukalani Elementary School
  • Waihe’e Elementary School
  • Haleakala Waldorf School
  • Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Suzuki Studio Maui
  • Hale Makua Health Services

We’re actively working to connect with more music educators on Maui to schedule even more presentations during our visit.

What We Need:
Our project has already received support and partial funding through the George K. Jakab Global Enrichment Grant from the Juilliard School. We’re looking to secure an additional $5,000 through GoFundMe to cover our expenses for the trip. We would be greatly appreciative of any support you may be able to provide for this project. I am a product of Maui’s unyielding support and would love to be able to return the favor through this project.

Thank you!
