PROJECT PIPALBOT
With monsoon starting on June 10th, we must hasten in providing the survivors temporary shelters. After the quake, monsoon poses risk of more landslides and flood, making many villages inaccessible.

Why Pipalbot?
In our first assessment we travelled to various earthquake-affected areas and identified such areas with bare minimum facilities that require our assistance. Pipalbot, a small village, located at Bhaktapur has been severely affected. Earthquake survivors are living under tarpaulins and tents. With the start of pre-monsoon, it is a hassle to live under the sub-standard shelters. Hence we believe the sooner we begin our sustainable rehabilitation effort, the better.

Why Chharito Ghar?

After rigorous research we’ve finally opted for building a sustainable shelter widely known as “Chharito Ghar” at Pipalbot.
https://www.facebook.com/ReliefRobotics

“Chharito Ghar” is a temporary, low cost shelter to resettle the earthquake victims and help them return to their normal life. This is weather resilient earthquake shelter and can be an appropriate solution for the victims as a shelter in terms of cost, time, labour, material and transportation.

The installation of one house in a site is assumed to take not more than 20 minutes of work with only 2-3 hours of manufacturing time. Chharito Ghar can last up to 2 yearsand can later be transformed into cattle sheds or storages.

Total manufacturing cost for a single unit of ‘Chharito Ghar’ is estimated around NRs. 35,000 (USD 350) including labor cost. The transportation cost depends on the location of the site and the manufacturing workshops.
