We are asking for your support to help the Hamrah Arts Club continue developing the Hamrah Oral History Project, a growing archive of personal stories about migration, displacement, and resettlement shared by young members of the Hamrah community. These are stories that are too often overlooked, and your contribution helps ensure they are heard, preserved, and uplifted.
Hamrah Arts Club was founded in 2021 as a grassroots, artist-led response to the large-scale relocation of Afghan families to the United States. Hamrah—meaning “fellow traveler” in Farsi—began as a small mentorship effort with just three youth participants. In three years, it has transformed into a vibrant creative community of more than thirty refugee, asylum-seeking, and immigrant youth. Through arts programming, peer mentorship, and collaborative projects, Hamrah creates connection, confidence, and belonging for young people navigating profound life transitions.
The Hamrah Oral History Project has already recorded over a dozen interviews, and interest continues to grow. As of Fall 2024, Hamrah operates chapters in Tucson, AZ, and Chicago, IL, offering both in-person and virtual engagement so more youth can participate regardless of location.
Your donation will directly support our ability to:
- Record additional oral history interviews with community members;
- Produce new, high-quality audio episodes;
- Strengthen and expand our archive so these stories remain accessible for years to come.
We are also thrilled to share that Hamrah Arts Club now has a permanent online home. Even more exciting, the first season of the Hamrah Oral History Project is now available to explore on our website: https://www.hamrahartsclub.com/
Every contribution—no matter the size—helps us preserve these powerful stories and sustain a community built on creativity, solidarity, and shared experience. Thank you for supporting Hamrah youth and helping us keep this important work alive!
