Theatre Nervosa presents a staged reading of a new play: The Tragic Romance of HAMLET & OPHELIA, adapted by Maya Danks.
Offering a new look at one of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies, HAMLET & OPHELIA emphasizes the doomed romance at the center of the famous Danish prince's story. Danks incorporates segments of Shakespeare's other plays to fabricate entire scenes that reimagine the story of Hamlet and bring Ophelia's perspective to the forefront. Comprised of text from over twenty of Shakespeare's works, this script gives Ophelia the words to say what she never could before.
HAMLET & OPHELIA will be presented Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. and Monday, April 7, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. Both readings will take place at Dandy, 5020 W Vliet St, Milwaukee, WI 53208.
The reading will feature Rebekah Farr as Hamlet and Grace Berendt as Ophelia, as well as Susie Duecker, Caroline Norton, Joe Picchetti, Adam Qutaishat, Thomas Sebald and Matthew Torkilsen. Adapter Maya Danks will direct and Kayla Bingen will stage manage; Theatre Nervosa operator A.J. Magoon will act as co-producer.
Donations support venue rental and performer stipends, as well as allowing Theatre Nervosa to offer these readings at a pay-what-you-can rate to all attendees. Support for this project fosters the development of new theatrical work in Milwaukee and helps create an environment for emerging artists to thrive.
