Halo's Fundraiser for Crohn's & Colitis UK

Do you want to join Halo Service Solutions in making a difference? We're raising money in aid of Crohn's & Colitis UK and every donation will help. On the 25th September 2021, a group of employees from Halo Service Solutions will travel to Scotland from Stowmarket, England and climb the iconic Scottish mountain, Ben Nevis. 

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic disease of the large intestine, in which the lining of the colon becomes inflamed and develops tiny ulcers. This condition is the result of an overactive response from the immune system (Crohn’s and Colitis UK, 2021). Being diagnosed with a disease such as this can be an overwhelming experience, as the disease has no known cure and stays with victims their entire lives, sometimes even causing cancer. To this day, over a third of patients are still having to undergo invasive surgery to control the disease and, sadly, we just don’t know what causes it.

The number of people suffering with ulcerative colitis is on the rise, so it’s more important than ever that we conduct research and fund the fight against this debilitating disease. Here at Halo Service Solutions, one of our staff members’ sister suffers intensely with the illness. As ulcerative colitis is an immune disorder, she has had to stay inside strictly self-isolating for the majority of the pandemic due to immunosuppressant therapies she has undergone, whilst her partner works hard to support them both on COVID-19 testing facilities. She has been through exhausting steroid based treatments, restrictive dietary changes and the nasty side-effects these produce, all of which have resulted in her being unable to work, unable to enjoy any of her hobbies, or even leave the house to run simple errands. All of which, with no end in sight.

We’re fundraising to improve research on the cause of the disease, and to allow Crohn’s and Colitis UK to continue their fantastic work supporting those who suffer with the disease. We hope to raise a minimum of £1,000 in the run up to the event. On top of our fundraising target, Halo will be donating an extra £50 for every employee that manages to reach the summit! Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause.
