Halos for Heroes - Psalm 91
...He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart...
We are using our Trotec lasers and Mimaki 3D printer to produce face shields for the countless local heroes saving lives every day. Our own industry suppliers have been amazing and partnered with us to help reduce costs and even donated a 3D printer for use with the project. Our Rotary club and district plus multiple partner clubs have also joined our quest. We are grateful to be able to use our equipment and resources lying idle in these unprecedented times for the greater good! God gave us this business and provides for our families, so we asked how we could use it during this time of need. He gave us Psalm 91. We are here to serve.
ALL of the donated funds for this project will go straight to the project and the material costs required. FiveStar will not be paid nor take any profit margin off any monies raised. But during a difficult time when small businesses were shut down and FiveStar found their main stream of business crashing to a halt with cancellation of sports and events and conferences, we pivoted to stay busy and support Community, which is one of our core values. At this time, we have adjusted the goals for the project based on funding raised and changes to capacity projections based on execution and manpower.
The project started with our initial goal of designing, producing and distributing 1,000 "Halo" shields, all cut on our lasers. Because our business was not generating income, we set out to raise the funds to buy the materials, asking family, friends and our team to help. Through our Rotary network, we were asked to up the game and support NC State with 25,000 face shields for halos they were printing on 3D printers. One of our suppliers gave us a 3D printer so we could help with their production, but the guts of our involvement would be getting the PETG material and cutting the shields. We initially had thought we would also help them assemble, but with our team working minimum hours and still trying to execute on any business that came our way during the shutdown, this part was not possible. Additionally, for safety and distribution control, NC State decided they would handle all the assembly and distribution.
To date we have served regional hospitals in Wake and Johnston counties, as well as assisted/senior living facilities and Transitions LifeCare. We are honored and touched by the reception, gratitude and need we were able to meet.
I am updating this on April 25, and we will complete the initial distribution of the 1,000 halos this week. We have purchased and brought in the material to support NC State with their project. We will continue to manage a list of requests and potentially (based entirely on need and available funds) will produce another 1,000 complete sets that again will be distributed by our team and Rotary club network. I have revised the goal for this Gofundme because we have received generous donations from Rotary clubs and other private donations to support this project. The true total cost for the materials will be more than $20,000 and we are almost at that point! We are thankful for all the donations, for our Rotary family, our Awards and Personalization industry suppliers and peers, and, of course, for YOU.
