Halloween House Fire

Donation protected
I am a 3rd grade teacher in Syracuse City Schools.
My student and her family suffered an awful loss yesterday. Her home was destroyed in a fire on the day before Halloween.

2020 is hard. However, this particular student is my shining star of 2020. She signs onto digital class EARLY everyday just to chat with a huge smile on her face. I was feeling sad yesterday because our classroom Halloween Celebration didn’t feel as magical as it usually does. SHE TRIED TO CHEER ME UP. She was live on class from 8-12. During that time she showed me her costume, her adorable dog (who is always dressed to impress) and shared her excitement for Halloween. She is literal sunshine.

I received news that their house was completely destroyed around 3 o’clock pm. I drove to her house out of sheer selfishness and a need to put my eyes on this child that has brought so much joy to my life this school year. When I arrived, she was the one smiling through tears. She was the one “excited” to have a Hotel Party on Halloween, now that their house was destroyed and they would be being helped by the Red Cross for temporary housing.

This child is what 2020 needs. She is the embodiment of positivity, strength, optimism and love. She and her family have lost everything. If you are able, your donation will be used to help this family put their lives back together. I wish I could see this event through the eyes of my student.

She will see your donation as a chance for “a new wardrobe” because she lost all of her clothing.

She will see your donation as “designing a new apartment” because they lost all their furniture.

She will see your donation as “luxury new cuisine” because their food is gone.

She will see your donation as “a brand new library” because she doesn’t have her books anymore.

I’m choosing to look at this situation through her eyes, and I will never forget your donation towards the bright future this little woman has in store for her. Because 2020 might have saddened a lot of people, but it just can’t sadden the happiest person I know.
