This Halloween Is for Mikey ️
For the past few years, Hunter’s Horror House has meant so much more to our family than a Halloween display. It began three years ago, when Hunter was diagnosed with cancer. Knowing that Halloween was his favorite holiday and something he looked forward to all year, his grandparents created the display to give him something exciting to focus on and look forward to while he was going through treatment.
Our family saw an opportunity to take something that brought Hunter so much happiness and use it to give back to others facing many of the same challenges our family had experienced. Our community embraced that mission right along with us, helping us support organizations that assist children and families battling childhood cancer.
This year, we’re bringing that support closer to home and rallying around Mikey and his family.
Mikey is 9 years old and has already been fighting cancer for several years. His journey began with sarcoma, and along the way, his family learned that he has a rare genetic condition called DICER1 syndrome, which contributed to him developing another rare type of cancer.
More recently, Mikey and his family learned that his chemotherapy treatments had not been successful. During those months of treatment, his cancer grew back aggressively, leaving his family facing yet another difficult chapter in a fight they have already been navigating for years.
But there is so much more to Mikey than his medical story. He’s a funny, strong, smart-mouthed 9-year-old with a big personality and a love for Deadpool. He also loves Halloween. His family shared with us that for the past three years, hospital stays during the Halloween season have kept him from being able to enjoy it the way a kid should.
That made choosing Mikey and his family for this year’s fundraiser feel especially meaningful to us.
Our family remembers what it meant to have people show up for Hunter during some of our hardest moments. Now we have the opportunity to show up for Mikey.
This year, every dollar raised through Hunter’s Horror House will go directly to Mikey’s family, giving them the ability to use the funds wherever they need them most. Whether you donate, share this fundraiser, or come visit Hunter’s Horror House, every bit of support matters. No amount is too small.
Together, we hope to make this our biggest year of giving yet!
