My wife Hali has had diabetes and kidney disease for many years. As the disease progresses, her medical situation changes as well. For the last few years she has been in stage 4 renal failure.
As her condition has changed, her mobility has diminished. mainly because of diabetic ulcers on her lower legs and feet. Depending on her kidney levels, she is subject to varying levels of weakness in her limbs.
Some days she can move her wheelchair to the bathroom or her chair, and other days she cannot.

It was suggested by some of her caregivers that to make things easier for her(and me) as well as give her a little independence, we should try to get a power wheelchair. Her insurance will not pay for it.  They will buy her a manual wheelchair every 2 years. They only pay for that or walkers for mobility needs.
We have managed to find a $3195 electric wheelchair that is basically new for $300. The man it was purchased for passed away about a week after it was delivered so his family has offered it for a tenth of what he paid for it.
It can carry Hali well and has adjustments to turn down the control sensitivity for the  times when she has her myoclonic jerks and tremors.
Getting the wheelchair turns out to be the easy part. We have a van, and we need a way to get the wheelchair into the van. 
I have found an economy chairlift that will fit our van and handle the weight of the chair. Unfortunately the lift is about double the price of the chair.
