Please help Justine, Keli'i, Chloe, Kahe & baby Hali'a with the tremendous challenges they are only beginning to face.
From Justine:
On May 19 , 2022, 8:39pm our Hali’a Kamakamaelua’ole Arredondo made her way into this world.
It wasn’t the fairytale birth that we prepared for, and in fact, it was a very intense, scary evening. I never thought I could have another complication let alone wind up back in the NICU , worrying about my little human.
My placenta ruptured out of nowhere causing a massive hemorrhage for me and also oxygen deprivation to Hali’a. It’s a rare occurrence and really came with no warning. Hali’a and I were barely hanging on. We were told that if anyone doctor had not been there we wouldn’t have made it. The delivery team did an excellent job saving us both… immediately upon getting her out they needed to resuscitate and intubate her while saving me. The next step was stabilizing her to get her to Oahu to a NICU to undergo hypothermia treatment to try and recover the damage of the abruption to give her the best outcome for her survival and future. Everything was uncertain.
Right now while I am recovering and we are here by her side, Hali’a is stationed in the NICU on Oahu. She has a long road of recovery, doctors said she has suffered some brain damage as part of the oxygen deprivation and MRI results have shown it is consistent with HIE. While things are uncertain we remain hopeful and faithful in her recovery, we won’t know much more about her prognosis until later. It’s just one of those broad diagnoses that no one really has definitive answers until it happens. So Right now it’s focus on her milestones with motor skills.
No matter what lies in the road ahead we are most grateful that she is alive and that is all that matters! We are forever grateful for the delivery team and the care team that is helping with recovery to come home! Let’s do this baby girl! We are all here fighting with you❤️❤️❤️
