Halfmoon Bay Elementary School PAC Donations

Halfmoon Bay Elementary has always been a beacon of learning, growth, and community spirit, a reality reflected in HMB’s consistent ranking as one of the best schools in the province.

Over the years, our school community and our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) have been instrumental in ensuring that our students have the best possible environment to thrive. From fundraising for new playground equipment to supporting in-class materials, field trips, grad class murals, end-of-year activities, parent education events, AV equipment, community school support, library and music program funding, movie nights, and our end-of-year fair, the PAC has been at the forefront of making these initiatives possible.

However, like many public schools in British Columbia, our school faces challenges.

Ongoing funding reductions have led to reduced staffing, fewer resources, and diminished funding for essential activities like field trips and classroom supplies. It's a concerning reality that many of our dedicated teachers often dig into their own pockets to ensure their classrooms have the necessary materials.

2024 Funding Priorities:

* Literacy Programming: The PAC is working to address a $7,000 funding need for the school’s literacy program.

* Food Waste Reduction: The PAC hopes to purchase a freezer for the Community School in order to reduce food waste.

* Sports Programming: The PAC has been asked to purchase new sports jerseys for the schools teams (one set of jerseys used by all teams).

This is where we need your help.

The PAC, as a part of its mandate, seeks to:

* Provide financial support for PAC goals set by members.

* Advise the principal and staff on parents’ views and feedback.

* Organize activities, events, and parent education opportunities.

* Encourage and support parent involvement in the school.

* Communicate with parents and promote home-school cooperation.

* Assist parents in navigating the system and advocate for them and students.

Resource Shortages: Many public schools, including ours, grapple with acquiring necessary school resources within their allocated federal and provincial funding. This includes not just materials, but also staff and supports necessary for a well-functioning school.
