HALF MARATHON FOR PKD
I am running the Palma Half Marathon on March 24th in hope to raise money for PKD Charity, a charity that is very close to mine and my family’s hearts.
About the charity: Founded in 2000, we’re the first and only UK charity solely dedicated to improving the lives of an estimated 70,000 individuals and their families affected by polycystic kidney disease (PKD).
PKD is a range of life-threatening inherited conditions that can cause kidney failure and affect other organs in the body such as the liver, brain, heart and bowels. Most people with PKD live with an uncertain prognosis, intermittent pain and infections, and then have to undergo life-saving dialysis or transplant in their 50s.
We raise awareness of the burden of PKD, both clinical and psychosocial. We fund research aimed at understanding more about PKD and the discovery of therapies that will improve quality and longevity of life.
This run is in memory of my beautiful grandma ‘Nanny Witch’ who sadly lost her battle to PKD almost 12 years ago.
This run is for my father who was lucky enough to receive a kidney transplant 11 years ago, and is currently in ‘good’ health.
And this run is for myself and my siblings who all carry this horrible disease.
Thank you in advance for any donations, it means the world. I hope that my efforts contribute even just a little in order to find a cure for Polycystic Kidney Disease xx
