Half Marathon for Olivia Inspires
On the 30th April Durham University Sailing Club (DUSC) and Castle College will be running a half marathon in Gateshead, in the hopes of raising money for a charity close to both of our hearts, Olivia Inspires.
Olivia Inspires is a charity founded in the memory of Durham student, Olivia Burt, who was a member of both the DUSC and Castle College studying Natural Sciences. Olivia died tragically in her first year at Durham, but her parents have created Olivia Inspires to allow her spirit to live on, by helping young people in the New Forest area to realise their potential. This is achieved through grants given to local families facing financial hardship in order to encourage their young people to develop skills in STEM, the arts, or sport.
We have been raising money for this charity in solidarity with Olivia's parents to ensure Olivia lives on at Durham. It would mean the world to us if you are able to donate to our fundraising page or share the story to create greater awareness of the cause. So far, at least twenty athletes will be running, with the event being the longest distance many have tackled. It really shows the level of determination members of the community have for charity fundraisers such as these, and we hope their efforts will not be in vain!
