Half marathon for Mermaids
Donation protected
I’m running a half marathon in just over two months! This is no small thing as I’ve been attached to my sewing machine since the start of the pandemic and rarely exercise!
I will be raising money for UK based helpline Mermaids.
Things have gone from bad to worse in the UK for trans people this year.
A culture war has been waging in the media fronted by hateful figures including Joanne Rowling.
Real time effects of this campaign include the looping “trans debate” on the news, usually fronted by conservative news figures and without any trans people present.
We have seen Increased anti trans violence, talk of bathroom bans and most recently the banning of puberty blockers for under 18s despite them being safe, reversible and life saving.
As someone who was bullied mercilessly for their queerness, I understand how it feels to struggle with my identity early in life. I can't even begin to imagine how frightening all of this is for LGBTQIA+ youth.
We don’t want to make your kids queer, we want to make sure that if they are, they have the resources they need.
Mermaids is a UK charity working to support transgender, non-binary and gender diverse children, young people and their families.
As policy and culture work to make these kids feel isolated and alone, this organisation is a lifeline for so many.
I will run my half marathon on 9th March 2025. I've been working hard to train my body this month and should be finishing December with 100km under my belt, probably more than I've ever run.
I would be so grateful if you'd dig deep and donate to this incredible cause and to share the fundraising page on your socials.
Thank you so much <3
