Who am I: My name is Billy Knight and I am a teacher and coach at Robbinsville High School. I have coached and taught at Robbinsville for 21 years.
Who am I raising money for: I am raising money for a former player of mine Ms. Haley Kennedy. Haley is a fulltime student at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where she is a freshman.
How will the money be used: The money raised will be used to help her pay for tuition, room and board, books and other college expenses. It is important for donors to know that Haley is working at Broadmoor resort when not attending classes to help pay for her living expenses and college but she needs some help. The money will be used immediately to cover costs for this school year. The sooner the better as she has to pay a late fee for every month she does not pay the amount due. She is receiving financial aid, however most of that is loans that she will have to repay after graduation and does not cover her full tuition costs. I cannot think of anyone else in my 21 year career teaching who needs your donantions any more than this young lady.
Why this means so much to me: This young lady is such a great story in spite of the obstacles she has had to overcome. I will not go into any detail about her childhood other than to say at Christmas of her junior year in high school she was removed from her father's house and moved to Robbinsville. Imagine being 16 years old and handed a plane ticket and told to get out. Since I have known her at no time has she received any financial or emotional support from her parents. While at Robbinsville she made a tremendous impact on me, my family, and many many others. She graduated from RHS with Honors, became a Certified Nursing Assistant, ran cross country, and despite having never played softball became an All SMC and All State honoree her Senior year. At the same time she held down a job at Walgreens to financially support herself. Haley would meet me on Sunday mornings before she went to work to practice her softball skills. She would ask me to work with her before practice as well. Can you imagine a world where everybody was this driven to succeed. This is the kind of person we need to invest in. This country needs more Haley Kennedys, someone who is willing to work their tail off to attain and make their dreams come true.
How thankful I would be: I cannot begin to describe how much this endeavor means to me and more importantly what it would mean to Haley. I have come to love this girl as if she were my own daughter and will do anything to help her. Thank You for taking the time to read about this wonderful person, Ms. Haley Rebecca Kennedy.
Sincerely,
Billy Knight
