My name is Carver Zullo and I, along with friends Jordan and Barbara, am writing on behalf of my daughter, Haley Zullo.
We all know Haley is one in a million and now she has the diagnosis to prove it.
In September, Haley was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease, called Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA).
That's a lot of fancy words to say that her immune system is failing her and it will continue to do so for the rest of her life.
This disease affects 1 - 2 people per million in the U. S. and 12 - 14 per million worldwide and it chose Haley. (Bad idea!)
After a life-threatening emergency and 3-week stay at Johns Hopkins, with the very, very best care available, Haley was able to finally return home. Truly life threatening and scary as hell!
She is back home now but can no longer work her full-time job of carpentry and project management. As you can see by the photos, Haley was active, adventurous, and healthy. She was an avid runner, hiker, and nature enthusiast but this disease has robbed her of that...for now!!
Hospital bills, follow-up appointments, at-home care, wound care supplies, etc... all add up. We are asking for any aid you can provide to help cover these costs and give Haley a leg up in her recovery. Good mental health helps healing physically; knowing some expenses will be covered will help in the healing process and allow Haley to focus her energy where it matters most right now—getting better!
When Mouse, the blind Husky, needed a home, Haley and James (super James) took him in to foster...they failed, thankfully. They did, however, succeed at raising enough money for his eye surgery and gave Mouse his fur-ever home. We can learn from Haley and embrace her spirit of love and support.
Let's pay it forward for Haley!
