2016 hasn't been the kindest year to us. We already had things stacked against us between Nathan's autism and then Keith being injured in Iraq in 2010. Both require expensive ongoing treatments. If that wasn't enough my body decided it wanted to mix things up a bit. In the last six months we have had 7 surgeries between Keith and I. I got extremely ill January 11th and have spent at least two months in the hospital and if I'm not inpatient then I have home health with TPN. I am suffering from an autoimmune disorder with malabsorption requiring nutrition and hydration through a PICC line which is now causing symptoms of congestive heart failure. I still have multiple more procedures to go with no end in site. Keith has had 3 back surgeries with fluid buildup that is drained weekly. Due to his brain injury if he doesn't use his wheelchair he falls a lot... So in one of his more recent falls he now has a complex meniscus tear in his good leg. The doctor said he literally doesn't have a good leg to stand on. Lol. This is new stuff to add to his traumatic brain injury, nerve damage and PTSD. As far as Nathan he continues to get further and further behind his IQ is 52 he is in a contained ASD class but continues to be bullied and is resulting in negative behaviors so we are searching for a special needs school in our area. We have been blessed to have my cousin, Haley, here to help with him but she is going back home at the end of May.
We also have two tough amazing kids Kaley and Zach who without them I don't know if we would have made it this far. I would like to add Zachary is graduating High School next week and couldn't be more proud. He has taken advance placement courses and received a internship and scholarship at Embery-Riddle Aeronautical University for coding flight simulators. Also Kaley is leaving 7th grade with a 3.87 GPA.
