If we could all write our own story, we would all live a long healthy life that approaches or exceeds a century. Unfortunately, nearly 40% of us will eventually hear two syllables that will change the course of our lives forever: “Cancer.” It could be a death sentence, or in a best-case scenario it’s a sentence to be challenged to physical and mental anguish you hoped to never experience so you can irradiate those cellular invaders that are taking over your body and win. Be Cancer free.
Our Mom, Shannon Griest, was informed she has Breast Cancer and she took the swift action of a Mastectomy in hopes she could avoid the long and arduous process of Chemotherapy. Well, it’s an aggressive 2B and 4 months of Chemo is required to hopefully irradiate the cancer so “GiGi” can continue to watch her grandchildren grow from adorable toddlers into the full-grown adults they are going to be.

It seems straightforward to someone in my shoes. Cancer->Doctors orders->Cancer free. Pretty simple right? Well, I’ve never been told I’m going to have to have something poisonous enough to kill Cancer but just not quite poisonous enough to kill me; pumped into my veins every other Friday.
When I first called my Mom following her visit with the Oncologist her first concern was that she was going to feel terrible and that the Doctor told her she wasn’t going to be able to work. She was already trying to figure out how she could schedule her Chemo on Fridays so she could feel terrible over the weekend and then get back to work on Monday.
Our Mom’s a nurse. She’s been taking care of other people her whole life. She grimaces at the thought of asking others for help. So, that is why we are putting this out there.
Unfortunately, Our Dad and Mom just opened a new coffee shop in New Port Richey. As a new business, “the shop” is just not able to make up for her lost wages and the high insurance deductibles at this timeWe hate the thought they are weighing options of how to make the finances work instead of focusing on how she is going to beat this and watch Easton and Beatrice continue to grow.

This is where we can use your help. Donation/thoughts/prayers are all appreciated equally!
Thank you,
